What is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people heal from the emotional distress and symptoms that follow difficult or traumatic experiences. EMDR works by using gentle, bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds) while focusing on distressing memories, allowing the brain to reprocess them and integrate new, adaptive beliefs.

Rather than talking in detail about the event, EMDR helps the nervous system release the emotional charge and restore balance — so the past no longer feels like the present, and healing can take root.

Amber Stephenson, MS, LPC, FNTP

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner trained in EMDR therapy. I integrate mind, body, and spirit approaches to help clients access their innate capacity for healing. I believe that authenticity, vulnerability, and relationship are central to transformation. Guided by the understanding that “the body keeps the score,” I help clients listen to the body’s wisdom, honor the heart’s knowing, and move toward wholeness. I enjoy working with individuals across the lifespan.

In my spare time, you will likely find me enjoying nature and the outdoors, reading or listening to audiobooks, spending time with my daughter, playing music with my husband, and playing with our toy poodle, Oscar! Oscar frequently goes to work with me, and he is my official “greeter”. His job is to help everyone feel welcome and loved.

I look forward to meeting and working together with you!
